In Memoriam: Nessa the Golden Raspberry

Where to begin... Let's lay this one out. Nessa the Golden Raspberry was stressed from the outset and she didn't take to the transplantation process very well. She had a dormant and likely dead cane, a crown couldn't produce green shoots consistently, and a smaller cane that was thin but also possibly dead on arrival.

Her pH swings were wildly dramatic and while she had roots coming out, the crown clearly wasn't aligned and was failing. The gnats were gnawing at her lifeless wooden crown as if they were maggots. The green shoots weren't coming up like they should. Was it underfed? Possibly, but the problems were there regardless of feed level.

The ppm levels should have dropped over time if it was starved for nutrients, but they did not drop. Something was not right and it just wasn't fixable, so we're here.

We'll honor our dear Chicagoan with another plant and her spirit will literally be found in a new home.

Not every plant makes it and not every plant is going to adjust well, it comes with the territory. Death is tough, but we will move on and given that this is immutable content we can take comfort in knowing that Nessa the Golden Raspberry's memory is forever.

We will remember the good times like when she made me think she was a tomahawk ribeye steak. We will remember her initial green shoots. We will remember how she sits uncomfortably strange in the net pot. We will remember Nessa the Golden Raspberry for what she was and not blame the brave soul who had sleepless nights trying to save her from herself and her unfortunately strange chemistry.

Nessa the Golden Raspberry is gone too soon. Bye-yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
