For you to understand the bible, you have to pray before and after reading the scriptures to ask God for wisdom and understanding, inviting the holy spirit to come and guide you.
Seek the holy spirit as the divine author of the bible and ask for his help to bring his words to life and reveal his truth.

Be patient because understanding takes time and hard work, avoid rushing it.
When you are reading, read every part of it than focusing on a particular part to grasp the meaning.
Study the bible, like attending bible study in the church to gain wisdom and encouragement from other believers.
After reading take time to reflect on what you have read and record your feelings and your prayers.
The bible told us in the book of Joshua 1:8 that "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

This verse made us to know that after studying the bible we should not remove it from our minds and our mouth, because God said with studying it we will prosper and be successful.
Apply what you read and learnt to your daily routine because it will transform your life and conform you to God's image.
The purpose of you studying the bible is to teach you the truth for your salvation and also to help you trust and love God.
