Disappointed!

It was the year 2004/2005 i was about writing my college exam and in my mind i was already rich, i had some plans and I even started making some arrangements, i was disappointed because i was busy counting my chicken before they hatch.

The set before ours made lots of money because they lied to their parents and they have lots of money after the exam, so our set also thought such practice will work for us but me personally was disappointed.

Before the exam we were asked to pay 5000 Naira but we planned that we will tell our parents that we were asked to pay 7000, that was additional 2000 Naira.

There was this our class mate who said she won't be part of such evil act, she was like "how could you, your parents have been taken care of your school fees for over 6yrs and you the mind to extort from them, i won't be a party to such"

We called her names like mary the mother of Jesus and many more but she chose her part.

I was scared at some point but after i was convinced by my friend i believe that i can trek my parents and i made plan of starting up a mini business with the money i will save during the exam.

Little did i know that my father communicates with the principal and he knows everything that i was doing but he kept quiet.

Before the exam period we had external lesson period that was organized by the school but we conspired and told our parents that were asked to pay some money and they gave us.

One day my father asked me an interrogating question, he asked me " Adaku is the principal of your school aware if all this money you guys are paying?"

I got shocked but immediately i said "Yes of course she knows"
My father smiled and walked away.

I thought about that question for a while and i just continued with what i was doing.

We had twelve papers for twelve days but we told our parents that it was 18 papers adding extra 6 papers, and that means more money, i was so happy that my savings is becoming more fat not knowing what was about to happen.

I had plan of starting up a business where i will be selling bread and groundnut because that was a trending business then because we had Soo much laborers in my village then.

I already meet with my uncle that owns a bakery and he promised to help me out if i have a little capital, in my head business was already booming.

My father constantly gave me all the money i requested and my mom will remind me how much that have been spent for my examination, so they had accurate calculation of how much i have saved.

It was two days after exams and my father called for a family meeting, i wasn't thinking anything of such, infact i have been looking for a way to tell them am starting up a business but i haven't seen a basis on how i got the money, those days when we where young our uncle gifts us money if they come to visit, so in my mind i was just praying for just an uncle's visit.

Hahahahah in my head i thought i was smarter than my parents.

After saying somethings during the family meeting, my father asked me to get up, i still didn't know why at the moment.

My father said "Adaku Adaku Adaku how many times did i call you?"

I replied "Papa three times"

He said "So after considering how me and your mom have been struggling to give you and your siblings a good life you still have the mind to join the bad gang in your school to extort money from us Why!"

I couldn't hold myself again i started crying, i explained to them my motive and unlike my classmates who have squandered all their money mine was still intact, i told them that i had plans to open a mini business after my exams with the money i saved.

My father instructed me to go and bring the money, i went write inside my bag and brought out the money i have saved.

My father said "Thank you for saving some money for the family, but that is the only reason why am sparingly you this night if not you could have been in soup"

I was still wondering how my father came to that knowledge so i decided to ask him.

"Papa how did you know about this?"

He said "you were already counting your chickens not knowing am smarter than you, i came to your school and your principal gave me a breakdown of the amount that was involved for your exams, when you started extorting from us, I went back to ask her if there was any changes and she said no, so it became obvious that you were extorting money "

He continued "I discussed with your mom and we decided to allow you finish your exams before we'll talk about it, so here we are today, just thank your God you didn't spend the money "

At that time i was guilty, confused and disappointed, 😞 the funny aspect was that i have already gotten a space for my mini business, in my mind i have calculated how much i should be making on weekly basis not knowing what was coming for me.
