The next 1 billion AI users will not know they are using AI

Occasionally, people talk about how X would make you feel like you're so backward when it comes to understanding and leveraging AI tech out there but when you step outside, you realize that a lot of people don't even know what the actual fuck Claude is.

It is true, an overwhelming majority of my relatives would think I'm talking about clouds in the sky if I snuck Claude into any conversation.

That said, this reality should not be mistaken for evidence of there being time to adjust. AI is moving fast and if you're opportuned to be aware of that, you should be moving as fast as it is.

More importantly, this reality proves that before the world would come to realize what this tech is capable of, they would have already been knee deep into using it for everything, effectively dependent.

AI isn't a chatbot

AI came in the form of what was familiar, but the tech isn't meant to function primarily through a chatbot interface.

Of course, there will always be the option to access machine intelligence through a messaging user interface (UI), but what should be expected in the long term is that AI becomes something far more integrated into systems that enables everything else to work.

The smartphone

In my experience, the smartphone is often one of the first examples of where people use AI without realizing it.

Your smartphone camera that you love so much is sometimes AI-powered, the search function too, your Apple or Spotify recommendation that just seems to “understand you” is an algorithm that's also powered by AI.

The smartphone is gradually living up to the name.

Soon, it will be a super intelligence in your pocket.

Maybe we'll call it pocket intelligence?

The next 1 billion users

The next 1 billion AI users will be using AI through the simplest of things without even knowing it.

The part people don't quite grasp is just how quickly that will happen.

It will begin with something as simple as the mobile phones, then the cars will be AI powered, the hospitals will be, the schools will be, even the roads will have AI systems enabling safe traffic flow.

The first wave of AI required people to open an AI app and ask a question. The next wave will be embedded inside apps, devices, businesses, and everyday services.

The world will not be walking around with an active thought of using AI, they will simply be using a product, service, or means, and all of it will have AI tech embedded.

And this is going to happen very quickly. My guess is 5 years, 10 tops.
