The most important fight of the next decade is a fight for privacy

Apple recently announced the launch of Digital ID which allows you to create an ID in Apple wallet by scanning your U.S. passport.
They claim that it is secure and private... Surely we can trust that because Apple is famously known for preserving its users privacy, right? right?
Believe what you want, but if you can verify that it is private, it probably isn't. People are losing their shit over this announcement and I love to see that many understand what's at stake here.
We've been having these conversations for several months now. Many within the cryptocurrency ecosystem have been talking about digital identities, specifically decentralized digital identities.
A lot of people believe that it is so important to know who people are at every given point, but I think that that would be prioritizing the wrong things.
I've seen some surveillance companies names out of the US lately and some of the common arguments for these types of companies is that they protect the American people.
How does spying on me protect me? When did protecting someone necessitate invading their privacy?
Why does the government need to know where I live when I don't pose any immediate threat to anyone?
Why do they need to know how much I make, tax that and still continue to monitor my purchases?
Somehow, that's all to protect me?
A lot of people don't realize it but it all only leads to slavery. Funny that technology that aimed to improve lives would possibly soon be the reason we all become slaves.
The most important fight of the next decade will be a fight for privacy.
Privacy tech has to win. The government means business when it comes to mass surveillance, so unless we build the system to shield ourselves, we will become powerless.
Having every bit of information about everyone means that those in control of these information can control everyone.
Finances, relationships and all personal data of individuals, can all be used to attack every individual.
People will come to realize just how important privacy is when we move into an economic system where government bodies actively track and monitor everybody, in a bid to control the masses whilst claiming to be protecting them
