Visit to the Virgilio Barco Library, a cultural tour
Greetings and blessings, dear #lifestyle friends. I hope you are well and that it's a nice week for all.
Since my nephew said he was coming to visit us, we planned an itinerary of walks and places to see. Among them, a mandatory stop was the Virgilio Barco Public Library. I knew that its modern architecture and spacious gardens would amaze him. Saturday was the day of this visit. We decided to start outside and enjoy the immense beauty that surrounds the library.
Upon arrival, the first thing we did was walk through the paths of abundant greenery, trees and flowers. The day was beautiful, although a bit cloudy. From different points, we could see the structure of the library, with its circular design and large windows. My nephew stopped every moment to observe the details, take pictures and breathe in the fresh air.

Desde que mi sobrino dijo que venía a visitarnos, planificamos un itinerario de paseos y lugares por conocer. Entre ellos, una parada obligatoria era la Biblioteca pública Virgilio Barco. Sabía que su arquitectura moderna y sus amplios jardines le sorprenderían. El sábado fue el día de esta visita. Decidimos comenzar por el exterior y disfrutar de la inmensa belleza que rodea la biblioteca.
Al llegar, lo primero que hicimos fue caminar por los senderos de abundante verde, árboles y flores. El día estaba hermoso, aunque un poco nublado. Desde distintos puntos, podíamos ver la estructura de la biblioteca, con su diseño circular y grandes ventanales. Mi sobrino se detenía a cada momento para observar los detalles, tomar fotos y respirar el aire fresco.
We approached the lake that surrounds part of the building, a mirror of water that reflected the beauty of the place. As we walked, I told him about the importance of this library and its function as a space of knowledge and culture for all.
As we entered the library, the natural light enveloped us, filtering softly through the large windows and creating a cozy atmosphere. We walked calmly through each section: the reading room, the endless bookshelves and the study spaces. In one of the rooms, we stopped in front of a reference to the chestnut tree, under whose shade José Arcadio Buendía lived his last days in One Hundred Years of Solitude.
At one point, we sat next to a large window to simply enjoy the atmosphere and the peace that comes from being in that silence of infinite words. This visit to the Virgilio Barco library was a fascinating experience for my nephew.
From the moment we walked through its doors, he was impressed by the majesty of the place, its modern architecture and the serenity that permeated every corner. Walking through its spacious rooms, exploring the shelves full of stories and discovering spaces dedicated to study and reading allowed him to connect in a special way with this important cultural center of Bogota.
Nos acercamos al lago que rodea parte del edificio, un espejo de agua que reflejaba la belleza del lugar. Mientras caminábamos, le conté sobre la importancia de esta biblioteca y su función como un espacio de conocimiento y cultura para todos.
Al entrar a la biblioteca, la luz natural nos envolvió, filtrándose suavemente a través de los amplios ventanales y creando una atmósfera acogedora. Recorrimos cada sección con calma: la sala de lectura, las estanterías interminables y los espacios de estudio. En uno de las salas, nos detuvimos ante una referencia al árbol de castaño, bajo cuya sombra José Arcadio Buendía vivió sus últimos días en Cien años de soledad.
En un momento, nos sentamos junto a un ventanal para simplemente disfrutar del ambiente y de la paz que da estar en ese silencio de palabras infinitas. Esta visita a la biblioteca Virgilio Barco fue una experiencia fascinante para mi sobrino.
Desde el momento en que cruzamos sus puertas, quedó impresionado por la majestuosidad del lugar, su arquitectura moderna y la serenidad que se respiraba en cada rincón. Recorrer sus amplias salas, explorar las estanterías llenas de historias y descubrir espacios dedicados al estudio y la lectura le permitió conectar de una manera especial con este importante centro cultural de Bogotá.
