Painting Mandalas on Recycled CDs♻️🎨
Have a happy and productive week, my dear creative friends. I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying abundant blessings of health and well-being.
This week we’re launching a new space for craftswomen. We arrived at the new venue where, from now on, we’ll be meeting. After not seeing each other for a while, just getting together again was a joy in itself, but doing so at CREA—a center dedicated to artistic training—made the whole experience feel even more special.
I was thrilled to learn that they opened their doors to us so we can continue doing what we enjoy so much: creating, learning from one another, and sharing that time that always ends up nourishing the soul. I’m very pleased and grateful because I feel this will be the setting for many projects, many conversations, and countless hours of art.
As we worked, good music played in the background—songs that accompanied us without interrupting our conversations. We talked about our projects, life, new ideas, and, of course, there was no shortage of snacks to share. I think those little breaks to have a coffee, try something delicious, and keep chatting are part of the magic of our get-togethers. Art always finds a way to bring us closer together.

Esta semana estrenamos un nuevo lugar para las artesanas. Llegamos al nuevo espacio donde, a partir de ahora, nos estaremos reuniendo. Después de un tiempo sin coincidir, volver a encontrarnos ya era motivo de alegría, pero hacerlo en CREA un centro dedicado a la formación artística hizo que todo se sintiera aún más bonito.
Me emocionó saber que nos abrieron sus puertas para que allí podamos seguir haciendo lo que tanto disfrutamos: crear, aprender unas de otras y compartir ese tiempo que siempre termina alimentando el alma. Estoy muy complacida y agradecida porque siento que este será el escenario de muchos proyectos, muchas conversaciones y muchísimas horas de arte.
Mientras trabajábamos sonaba buena música de fondo, canciones que acompañan sin interrumpir las conversaciones. Hablamos de nuestros proyectos, de la vida, de ideas nuevas y, por supuesto, no faltaron las meriendas para compartir. Creo que esas pequeñas pausas para tomar un café, probar algo rico y seguir conversando son parte de la magia de nuestros encuentros. El arte siempre encuentra la manera de acercarnos.

At this first meeting, we decided to work with a very simple material that’s full of possibilities: recycled CDs. I love it when we can transform something that seemed to have already served its purpose into something completely different. It’s a beautiful way to remember that creativity can also give objects a second chance.
Materials
For this activity, we used:
• Recycled CDs.
• Paintbrushes of different sizes.
• Acrylic paints.
• A small cloth.
• A small cup of water for cleaning the paintbrushes.
You don’t need expensive materials to enjoy a creative day. With just a few items and a strong desire to experiment, truly beautiful results can emerge.
En esta primera reunión decidimos trabajar con un material muy sencillo, pero lleno de posibilidades: CD reciclados. Me encanta cuando podemos transformar algo que ya parecía haber cumplido su función en una pieza completamente diferente. Es una forma muy bonita de recordar que la creatividad también puede darle una segunda oportunidad a los objetos.
Materiales
Para realizar esta actividad utilizamos:
• CD reciclado.
• Pinceles de diferentes grosores.
• Pinturas acrílicas.
• Un pañito.
• Un vasito con agua para limpiar los pinceles.
No hace falta tener materiales costosos para disfrutar de un día creativo. Con unos pocos elementos y muchas ganas de experimentar pueden surgir resultados realmente hermosos.

Step by Step
The first thing we did was clean the CD very thoroughly to remove any residue. Then we applied a coat of white acrylic paint as a base. That white background helps the colors stand out much more.
While we waited for the paint to dry, we took the opportunity to chat, listen to music, and enjoy each other’s company. Once the base was dry, we began drawing the mandalas, each of us following our own style and letting our imagination guide the design.
The last step was the one I enjoyed the most: bringing the mandala to life with colors. I started from the center and worked my way outward, filling each shape with whatever color combination came to mind in the moment. I let myself get completely carried away and ended up using lots of bright, vibrant colors. I think that, without even realizing it, I was painting the joy I felt from being in such a beautiful place, surrounded by people who love art as much as I do.
Paso a paso
Lo primero que hicimos fue limpiar muy bien el CD para retirar cualquier residuo. Después aplicamos una capa de pintura acrílica blanca como base. Ese fondo blanco ayuda a que los colores resalten mucho más.
Mientras esperábamos que la pintura secara, aprovechamos para conversar, escuchar música y disfrutar de la compañía. Una vez seca la base, comenzamos a dibujar los mandalas, cada una siguiendo su propio estilo y dejando que la imaginación guiara el diseño.
El último paso fue el que más disfruté: darle vida al mandala con los colores. Empecé desde el centro y fui avanzando hacia afuera, rellenando cada figura con la combinación que iba surgiendo en ese momento. Yo me dejé llevar completamente y terminé usando muchos colores vivos y vibrantes. Creo que, sin darme cuenta, estaba pintando la alegría que sentía por estar en ese lugar tan hermoso, rodeada de personas que disfrutan del arte tanto como yo.

I’m sure this was just the beginning of a very special chapter. I’ll show you more of this beautiful and special space in an upcoming post. For now, I’ll cherish the joy of having once again shared an afternoon of creativity, friendship, and colors, convinced that the best place to make art will always be where we feel welcome.
