My review of "See you in August", posthumous novel by García Márquez

On this occasion I would like to share with you the review of En agosto nos vemos, the posthumous novel by Gabriel García Márquez that was published earlier this year for the 97th anniversary of the writer's birth.
I had the opportunity to read the novel thanks to the fact that it was promoted as one of the three new books of the month in the library I frequent in my community. Although I had considered buying it, when I saw that it was available for loan, I decided to take the opportunity to enjoy it.
I was very curious to read En agosto nos vemos, because of all the controversy that has surrounded the novel. Some argue that it should not have been published, arguing that if the writer did not finish it, it was because he was not satisfied with what he had written. Others see the publication as a simple business opportunity for the writer's heirs, among other criticisms.
With the novel in my hands, I decided to read it as soon as possible to form my own opinion.

En esta ocasión quiero compartir con ustedes la reseña de En agosto nos vemos, la novela póstuma de Gabriel García Márquez que se publicó, a principios de este año, por el 97 aniversario del nacimiento del escritor.
Tuve la oportunidad de leer la novela gracias a que la promocionaron como una de las tres novedades del mes en la Biblioteca que frecuento en mi comunidad. Aunque había considerado comprarla, al ver que estaba disponible para préstamo, decidí aprovechar la oportunidad para disfrutarla.
Sentía mucha curiosidad por leer En agosto nos vemos, debido a toda la polémica que ha rodeado la novela. Algunos sostienen que no debió publicarse, argumentando que si el escritor no la terminó, fue porque no estaba satisfecho con lo escrito. Otros ven la publicación como una simple oportunidad de negocio para los herederos del escritor, entre otras críticas.
Con la novela en manos, decidí leerla lo antes posible para formarme una opinión propia.
See you in August is a short novel that I finished in a few hours, it has six short chapters that read fast. I spent a couple of hours on it during a coffee outing, and this morning I finished it in about four hours, approximately.
It's a romance novel that grabbed me from the first lines. It tells the story of Ana Magdalena Bach, the protagonist, who every August 16 traveled to the island where her mother was buried to bring her flowers and to tell them of her joys and sorrows. In these trips, Ana Magdalena lives some experiences that make her feel a living woman, renewed, and make her feel new emotions, to the point that she fervently desires the arrival of the eighth month of the year to go in search of what has made her happy in recent years.
En agosto nos vemos es una novela corta que terminé en pocas horas, tiene seis capítulos breves que se leen rápido. Le dediqué un par de horas durante una salida a tomar café, y esta mañana la terminé en unas cuatro horas, aproximadamente.
Es una novela romántica que me atrapó desde las primeras líneas. Cuenta la historia de Ana Magdalena Bach, la protagonista, quien cada 16 de agosto viajaba a la isla en la cual estaba enterrada su madre a llevarle flores y a contarles sus alegrías y pesares. En estos viajes, Ana Magdalena vive algunas experiencias que la hacen sentir una mujer viva, renovada, y la hacen sentir nuevas emociones, hasta el punto de que desea fervientemente la llegada del octavo mes del año para ir en búsqueda de lo que la ha hecho feliz en los últimos años.
As I mentioned before, the novel grabbed me from the first chapters. The beautiful descriptions allowed me to clearly imagine the settings and the experiences of the protagonist. However, as it progressed, I felt that the end was approaching too fast and that the few remaining pages would not be enough to close the story in a satisfactory way.
As I reached the last few lines, I was left with the feeling that the story was incomplete. I felt that the ending had not done justice to the rest of the story that had been being told. So when I closed the book, I was left thinking that I was right not to have bought it.
I share this review with the intention of offering my perspective, but I do not intend my opinion to be definitive for those who are interested in reading it. Every reader has his or her own experience with a book, and what I didn't like might resonate differently with others. So, if the novel catches your attention, I encourage you to give it a chance and form your own opinion.
Como mencioné antes, la novela me atrapó desde los primeros capítulos. Las hermosas descripciones me permitieron imaginar con claridad los escenarios y las vivencias de la protagonista. Sin embargo, a medida que avanzaba, sentí que el final se acercaba demasiado rápido y que las pocas páginas restantes no serían suficientes para cerrar la historia de manera satisfactoria.
Al llegar a las últimas líneas, me quedó la sensación de que la historia estaba incompleta. Sentí que el final no había hecho justicia al resto de la historia que se venía contando. Así que cuando cerré el libro, me quedé pensando en que fue un acierto no haberla comprado.
Comparto esta reseña con la intención de ofrecer mi perspectiva, pero no pretendo que mi opinión sea definitiva para quienes estén interesados en leerla. Cada lector tiene su propia experiencia con un libro, y lo que no me gustó a mí podría resonar de manera diferente en otros. Así que, si la novela les llama la atención, les animo a darle una oportunidad y formarse su propia opinión.

Lástima que esté en español y yo no domine tanto como para leer un libro entero en español. Probablemente no estaba completo porque el escritor no lo terminó y simplemente remendaron el final ellos mismos, es lo que es supongo, estoy seguro de que fue una lectura interesante
Pues yo te agradezco que la reseñaras porque tampoco logro saber bien aún como sentirme al respecto. Creo que en vez de publicarlo como novela, los escritos póstumos incompletos pueden salir como bocetos, cartas, compilaciones, etc… seguramente tenía planeada la idea principal, pendiente de completar con su estilo el grueso y detalle de la historia.
Igual, leer cosas escritas por él siempre es agradable, a sabiendas de que es una obra inconclusa, seguro se pasa un buen rato en su compañía.
Sí, pese a ese final incomprensible, me gustó leerla. Pero, me quedó la curiosidad de qué hubiera sido esa novela si Gabo la hubiera terminado antes de su muerte. Saludos, Nina, un abrazo.

A mí me lo prestaron el año pasado y tuve la misma opinión que tú, la historia me pareció por demás interesante.
Es una historia interesante, al inicio quedé atrapada, pero el final me dejó con muchas dudas. Saludos.
