June 24, 2026: Venezuela, closer to my heart than ever
In the days following the two earthquakes that struck Venezuela, I remained silent. I felt deeply shaken and sad.
Seeing the news reports about the earthquakes and the images of the devastation in Caracas and La Guaira filled me with profound sorrow. Thinking about so many families who, in the blink of an eye, lost their peace of mind, their homes, and their loved ones moved me deeply. At times like these, it’s hard to find the right words.
As a Venezuelan, it’s impossible not to feel deep sorrow when something happens to our country. Even though there’s a distance between us, the connection to my roots remains intact. Every news story, every photograph, and every testimony feels very close to my heart.
Durante estos días, después de los dos terremotos que ocurrieron en Venezuela, me mantuve en silencio. Me sentía profundamente conmocionada y triste.
Ver las noticias sobre los terremotos y las imágenes de la devastación en Caracas y La Guaira me llenó de un profundo dolor. Pensar en tantas familias que, de un momento a otro, perdieron la tranquilidad, sus hogares y a sus seres queridos, me conmovió profundamente. En momentos como estos, resulta difícil encontrar las palabras.
Como venezolana, es imposible no sentir un profundo dolor cuando algo le sucede a nuestro país. Aunque la distancia exista, el vínculo con mis raíces permanece intacto. Cada noticia, cada fotografía y cada testimonio se sienten muy cercanos.
Today, I want to reflect on—and this is my comfort—the strength that has always defined us Venezuelans. We are a people who have learned to get back on our feet time and time again, finding hope even in the most difficult moments. That resilience is definitely part of who we are.
I am confident that, little by little, my country and the devastated cities will be able to rebuild, despite the scars that will mark us forever.
Today I want to send a heartfelt hug to everyone who is going through this difficult time. May love, hope, strength, and solidarity continue to be the strongest bonds that unite us as Venezuelans.
Hoy, quiero recordar, y es mi consuelo, la fortaleza que siempre nos ha caracterizado a los venezolanos. Somos un pueblo que ha aprendido a levantarse una y otra vez, encontrando esperanza, incluso en los momentos más difíciles. Definitivamente, esa resiliencia es parte de nuestra esencia.
Confío en que poco a poco mi país y las ciudades devastadas podrán reconstruirse, pese a las grietas que nos marcarán por siempre.
Hoy quiero enviar un abrazo de todo corazón a todos los que están pasando por este momento difícil. Que el amor, la esperanza, la fortaleza y la solidaridad sigan siendo los lazos más fuertes que nos unen como venezolanos.
