Filet crochet, my mother's art on a small rug🧶🤍

For this Monday's needlework session, I want to tell you something that touched my heart with great emotion and nostalgia. Recently, while going through some things my mother had sent me from Venezuela, I found an unexpected treasure: a small rug woven using the filet crochet technique. When I took it out and opened it on the table, I stared at it for a long time. She had woven a beautiful umbrella, with well-defined details, all made with the patience that only she had. I loved it.
I immediately thought that I wanted to replicate it because it is beautiful and because doing so would be a way to honor what she did with her hands. Today, I wanted to show it to you so that you can also appreciate my mother's artistry. Each square and each space reflects the dedication with which she worked and the deep love she felt for knitting, a love that she instilled in me and that I carry today as the most beautiful of her legacies.

Para este lunes de agujas, quiero contarles algo que me movió el corazón de mucha emoción y nostalgia. Hace poco, revisando unas cosas que me habían enviado de mi mamá desde Venezuela, me encontré un tesorito inesperado: un tapetito tejido en técnica de filet crochet. Cuando lo saqué y lo abrí sobre la mesa, me quedé mirándolo un buen rato. Tenía tejido un paraguas precioso, con sus detalles bien definidos, todo hecho con esa paciencia que solo ella tenía. Me gustó muchísimo.
De inmediato pensé en que lo quiero replicar porque está hermoso y porque hacerlo sería una manera de honrar lo que ella hacía con sus manos. Hoy quise mostrárselos para que también puedan apreciar el arte que hacía mi madre. Cada cuadrito y cada espacio reflejan la dedicación con la que trabajaba y el amor profundo que sentía por el tejido, un amor que sembró en mí y que hoy llevo como el más hermoso de sus legados.

These may seem like small details, but they make all the difference. This week, I've decided to crochet a small rug using this technique as a way to feel that part of her is still here with me, and to share it with you in this community that has been my safe place these last few years.
El filet crochet es una técnica hermosa que combina cadenetas y puntos altos para formar dibujos. Parece sencilla, pero tiene sus detalles. Hay que tomar en cuenta varias cositas para que el trabajo quede bonito y prolijo. Por ejemplo, las cadenas de subida deben quedar más apretadas para que el borde no se deforme, y las cadenas de separación conviene hacerlas un poco más flojas para que los espacios se vean parejitos. También es importante mantener la tensión del hilo constante y contar bien los puntos para que el diseño no se descuadre.
Parece que son detalles pequeños, pero hacen toda la diferencia. Esta semana me he propuesto tejer un tapetito igual con esta técnica como una forma de sentir que algo de ella sigue aquí conmigo, y compartirlo con ustedes en esta comunidad que ha sido mi lugar seguro estos últimos años.
