FILBo 2025: my third year|A literary stroll with the family
Greetings, my dear book-loving friends! I hope you are doing very well, in good health and well-being.
This past Sunday, I attended for the third consecutive year the Bogota International Book Fair (FILBo 2025) which began on April 25 and will end on May 11. FILBo 2025 exceeded my expectations once again. I especially loved its manifesto this year, which resonated deeply with me: “The body is also the place where wonderful things happen to us, such as imagination, language, emotions, pleasure...”. That phrase struck me as a beautiful celebration of everything we feel and experience through books.
From the moment we entered the fairgrounds, you could feel the magic of books in the air: aisles full of curious readers, entire families strolling among the stands, young people with new books in their hands and the constant murmur of those who, like me, are in search of literary treasures.

Este domingo pasado, asistí por tercer año consecutivo a la Feria Internacional del Libro de Bogotá (FILBo 2025) que comenzó el 25 de abril y terminará el 11 de mayo. La FILBo 2025 superó mis expectativas una vez más. Me encantó, especialmente, su manifiesto de este año, que resonó profundamente en mí: “El cuerpo también es el lugar donde nos ocurren cosas maravillosas como la imaginación, el lenguaje, las emociones, el placer...”. Esa frase me pareció una celebración hermosa de todo lo que sentimos y vivimos a través de los libros.
Desde que entramos al recinto ferial, se sentía la magia de los libros en el aire: pasillos repletos de lectores curiosos, familias completas paseando entre estands, jóvenes con nuevas lecturas entre manos y ese murmullo constante de quienes, como yo, vamos en busca de tesoros literarios.

This year, the guest country was Spain, and that gave the event a special flair. The presence of many publishers, talks by Spanish writers and a spectacular decoration in the Spanish pavilion made the atmosphere even more charming. In this edition of the fair, I had a clear objective: to buy El infinito en un junco by Spanish writer Irene Vallejo. I had started reading it thanks to a friend who lent it to me, and from the first pages I was hooked and felt I couldn't put it down. The way the writer intertwines history, literature and passion for books made me fall in love with it completely. I knew I wanted to have my own copy to read it at my leisure, underline it and enjoy it without the pressure of having to return it soon.
It was not an easy task to get it. I went around several stands asking for it. Some didn't have it, in others the price didn't convince me, but I didn't give up. When I almost thought I wasn't going to make it, I finally found it: a spectacular hardcover edition that made me very happy. And best of all, at a great price! I took that joy home with the excitement of someone who finds a real treasure.
Este año, el país invitado fue España, y eso le dio un aire especial al evento. La presencia de muchas editoriales, charlas de escritores españoles y una decoración espectacular en el pabellón de ese país, hicieron que el ambiente fuera aún más encantador. En esta edición de la feria, yo tenía un objetivo claro: comprar El infinito en un junco de la escritora española Irene Vallejo. Había comenzado a leerlo gracias a una amiga que me lo prestó, y desde las primeras páginas quedé atrapada y sentí que no podía soltarlo. La forma en que la escritora entrelaza historia, literatura y pasión por los libros me enamoró por completo. Sabía que quería tener mi propio ejemplar para leerlo con calma, subrayarlo y disfrutarlo sin la presión de tener que devolverlo pronto.
No fue tarea fácil conseguirlo. Recorrí varios estands preguntando por él. Algunos no lo tenían, en otros el precio no me convencía, pero no me rendí. Cuando ya casi pensaba que no iba a lograrlo, finalmente, lo encontré: una espectacular edición de tapa dura que me hizo muy feliz. Y lo mejor, ¡a un buen precio! Me llevé esa alegría a casa con la emoción de quien encuentra un verdadero tesoro.

Once again, I went with my daughter and husband, who enjoy this type of planning as much as I do. Although the rain held off all afternoon, it didn't dampen our experience at all. We sheltered among books, shared discoveries, and even paused for a coffee break that comforted us from the lingering cold and gave us a warm and delightful moment.
Seeing so many people gathered around books, with the same sparkle in their eyes, reaffirms our love for reading and for these spaces where the written word is the true protagonist. FILBo is more than a literary festival, it is a place of encounter, discovery and inspiration. Coming back every year has become a family tradition that I deeply treasure.
Una vez más, fui con mi hija y mi esposo, quienes disfrutan tanto como yo de este tipo de planes. Aunque la lluvia se mantuvo toda la tarde, eso no empañó en lo absoluto nuestra experiencia. Nos refugiábamos entre libros, compartíamos descubrimientos, e incluso hicimos una pausa para tomarnos un cafecito que nos reconfortó del frío persistente y nos dio un momento cálido y delicioso.
Ver a tantas personas reunidas alrededor de los libros, con el mismo brillo en los ojos, reafirma nuestro amor por la lectura y por estos espacios donde la palabra escrita es la verdadera protagonista. La FILBo es más que una fiesta literaria, es un lugar de encuentro, de descubrimiento y de inspiración. Volver cada año se ha convertido en una tradición familiar que atesoro profundamente.
