Celebrating World Knitting Day in Public (EN-ES)

The second Saturday of the month of June is World Public Knitting Day, so events are organized in parks, squares and other open spaces where knitting lovers of all ages gather to knit together. This is a date that fills me with emotion because it celebrates something that I am deeply passionate about. For days I had seen some invitations to participate in meetings in parks and other open spaces, where knitters gather with their needles and balls to share this special art. I imagined the atmosphere: colors everywhere, smiles, conversations between stitches, and that beautiful feeling of community that arises when knitting in a group.

El segundo sábado del mes junio se celebra el Día Mundial de Tejer en Público, por esto se organizan eventos en parques, plazas y otros espacios abiertos donde los amantes del tejido de todas las edades se reúnen para tejer juntos. Esta es una fecha que me llena de emoción porque celebra algo que me apasiona profundamente. Desde hace días había visto algunas invitaciones para participar en encuentros en parques y otros espacios abiertos, donde las tejedoras se reúnen con sus agujas y ovillos a compartir este arte tan especial. Me imaginaba el ambiente: colores por todas partes, sonrisas, conversaciones entre puntadas, y esa sensación tan bonita de comunidad que surge cuando se teje en grupo.

I would have loved to join in, but today I had a full day in the kitchen. I received several orders of quesillo to celebrate and sweeten the day for the dads this Sunday, and I was between ingredients, candy and molds all day. I'm not complaining, because cooking is also a way to give love, but I do confess that I felt a little nostalgic for not being able to go out with my little bag of yarns to sit under a tree and knit with friends.

I love that knitting is coming back into fashion, because as I have always said, besides being a beautiful art, it is a wonderful therapy, it gives us many benefits, it connects us with the present, it relaxes us, it gives us patience, and it also fills us with pride when we finish a piece.

Me hubiera encantado unirme a esa movida, pero hoy tenía el día completamente comprometido en la cocina. Recibí varios encargos de quesillo para celebrar y endulzar el día a los papás este domingo, y estuve entre ingredientes, el caramelo y los moldes todo el día. No me quejo, porque cocinar también es una forma de dar amor, pero sí confieso que sentí un poquito de nostalgia por no poder salir con mi bolsita de lanas a sentarme bajo un árbol a tejer entre amigas.

Me encanta que el tejido esté volviendo a ponerse de moda, porque como lo he dicho siempre, además de ser un arte hermoso, es una terapia maravillosa, nos brinda muchos beneficios, nos conecta con el presente, nos relaja, nos da paciencia, y también nos llena de orgullo cuando terminamos una pieza.

Although today is the special day to knit in public, the truth is that, for me, and I'm sure for many knitters, that day is every day, because any time is a good time to take out the needles, find a comfortable corner and let yourself go with the rhythm of knitting. And if I'm in a waiting room, in the park or having a coffee, even better! Knitting in front of others has its magic: it arouses curiosity, generates conversation and sometimes even inspires other people to try it.

And since I don't want to be left with the desire, I have already decided that one of these weekends I will go to a park with my woolens, my blanket and a good thermos of coffee to celebrate this special day on my own. For now, I celebrate, from my home, this special day and I am excited to think that anywhere in the world, today there were many hands united by the yarn knitting pieces and good experiences.

Aunque hoy sea el día especial de tejer en público, la verdad es que, para mí, y estoy segura de que, también, para muchas tejedoras, ese día es todos los días, pues cualquier momento es bueno para sacar las agujas, buscar un rinconcito cómodo y dejarse llevar por el ritmo del tejido. Y si estoy en una sala de espera, en el parque o tomando un café, ¡mejor aún! Tejer frente a los demás tiene su magia: despierta curiosidad, genera conversación y a veces hasta inspira a otras personas a intentarlo.

Y como no quiero quedarme con las ganas, ya decidí que uno de estos fines de semana me iré a un parque con mis lanas, mi mantita y un buen termo de café para celebrar por mi cuenta este día tan especial. Por ahora, celebro, desde mi casa, este día tan especial y me ilusiona pensar que en cualquier lugar del mundo, hoy hubo muchas manos unidas por el hilo tejiendo piezas y buenas experiencias.
