An afternoon of healing amid threads and words

Greetings, dear friends of #lifestyle. I hope you’re all doing very well and enjoying good health and well-being.
This past Friday left a deep impression on my heart. That day, I took part in “Historias al Viento,” a gathering where reading, knitting, and friendship came together to give me a moment I needed more than I could have imagined.
We met at the Virgilio Barco Library here in Bogotá at the invitation of a wonderful knitting community that has welcomed me with such warmth. This gathering coincided with the one-month anniversary of the twin earthquakes in La Guaira. I couldn’t help but think of the children who lost their lives and the families who are still trying to rebuild their lives amid grief and loss, so as my hands followed the rhythm of knitting and after listening to several readings, I felt the urge to read the poem “Los hijos infinitos” by Andrés Eloy Blanco.

As I began to read, I felt that each verse touched on an emotion that had remained hidden away. Nostalgia and sadness found a space to express themselves. It wasn’t a moment of weakness, but of humanity. I realized that, sometimes, allowing ourselves to feel is a way to heal.
That afternoon, I confirmed something I’ve learned time and time again: knitting is healing; it calms the mind and warms the heart. Reading invites us to look inward, and friendship reminds us that we don’t have to walk the hardest paths alone.
I returned home certain that these moments are a gift. In a world that demands we’re always in a hurry, taking the time to read, knit, and share with friends can become true therapy for the soul.
May we never stop seeking out those little refuges where the heart finds, stitch by stitch and word by word, the peace it so desperately needs.
