For some time now, my sister and I had talked about visiting the Mantle of the Divine Shepherdess. We had seen photos, heard comments, and read experiences from others who had been there, but for one reason or another, we hadn’t been able to make the visit happen. Fortunately, recently the perfect opportunity presented itself: our mom came to visit the city, and we decided to take advantage of her stay to organize a family outing. Our cousin and our neighbor Eliud also joined us.

Desde hace ya algún tiempo, mi hermana y yo habiamos hablado sobre visitar el Manto de la Divina Pastora. Habíamos visto fotos, escuchado comentarios y leído experiencias de otras personas que habían estado allí, pero por una u otra razón, no habíamos logrado concretar la visita. Por suerte, recientemente se nos presentó la oportunidad perfecta: nuestra mamá vino de visita a la ciudad, y decidimos aprovechar su estadía para organizar un paseo en familia. Nos acompañaron también nuestro primo y nuestro vecino Eliud.

The trip to the place was calm, filled with lively conversations. We arrived with great excitement and found that the entrance fee per person was only one dollar, a very affordable price considering the experience we were about to have. One detail that I loved was that the site is pet-friendly, which allowed me to bring Kyoto, my faithful four-legged companion, who also enjoyed the outing in his own way.

El viaje hasta el lugar fue tranquilo, lleno de conversaciones animadas. Llegamos con mucha emoción y nos encontramos con que la entrada por persona costaba tan solo un dólar, un precio bastante accesible considerando la experiencia que estábamos por vivir. Un detalle que me encantó fue que el sitio es pet friendly, lo que me permitió llevar conmigo a Kyoto, mi fiel compañero de cuatro patas, quien también disfrutó del paseo a su manera.

As we started the ascent towards the monument, the atmosphere became more lively. On one side of the path, stalls of all kinds lined up: colorful handicrafts, traditional sweets, t-shirts printed with the image of the Divine Shepherdess, pizzas, hot dogs, and my favorite, strawberries with cream. The smell of freshly made food mixed with the fresh mountain air, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, just as we arrived, it began to rain. It was a steady and somewhat annoying rain, so we couldn't stop to calmly check out each stall as we would have liked.

A medida que comenzamos el ascenso hacia el monumento, el ambiente se volvió más animado. A un lado del camino se alineaban puestos de todo tipo: artesanías coloridas, dulces típicos, camisas estampadas con la imagen de la Divina Pastora, pizzas, perros calientes, y mi favorito, fresas con crema. El olor a comida recién hecha se mezclaba con el aire fresco de la montaña, creando una atmósfera muy acogedora. Lamentablemente, justo cuando llegamos, comenzó a llover. Fue una lluvia constante y algo molesta, por lo que no pudimos detenernos a ver con calma cada puesto como nos habría gustado.

My sister, my cousin, and our neighbor decided to take on the challenge of climbing the 296 steps that lead to the top of the monument, from where you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view. I, on the other hand, decided to stay below with my mom and Kyoto. While they were climbing, we took the opportunity to take photos, admire the landscape, and enjoy a quiet moment, sheltering from the rain.

Mi hermana, mi primo y nuestro vecino decidieron aceptar el reto de subir los 296 escalones que conducen hasta la cima del monumento, desde donde se puede apreciar una vista panorámica impresionante. Yo, por mi parte, decidí quedarme abajo junto a mi mamá y Kyoto. Mientras ellos subían, nosotros aprovechamos para tomarnos fotos, admirar el paisaje y disfrutar de un rato tranquilo, resguardándonos de la lluvia.

The view from the base was already spectacular. The vastness of the mantle of the Divine Shepherdess, a majestic work, commands respect and devotion. It’s impossible not to feel overwhelmed by its magnitude and beauty. The natural surroundings, with mountains and green landscapes, make the experience even more special. The whole place conveys a sense of peace and spiritual connection.

La vista desde la base ya era espectacular. La inmensidad del manto de la Divina Pastora, una obra majestuosa, impone respeto y devoción. Es imposible no sentirse sobrecogido ante su magnitud y belleza. El entorno natural que lo rodea, entre montañas y verdes paisajes, hace que la experiencia sea aún más especial. Todo el lugar transmite una sensación de paz y conexión espiritual.

When the rest of the group came down, they enthusiastically shared how impressive the view from the top was and how rewarding the effort of climbing the steps had been.

Cuando el resto del grupo bajó. Contaban con entusiasmo lo impresionante que era la vista desde lo alto y lo gratificante que había sido el esfuerzo de subir los escalones.

This outing, though brief and somewhat rainy, was a beautiful experience that will stay in my memory. Being able to share it with my family, my dog, and our loved ones made it even more meaningful. If you ever have the chance to visit the Mantle of the Divine Shepherdess, don't hesitate. It’s a place worth visiting, not only for its religious significance but also for the warmth of the people and the natural beauty that surrounds it.

Este paseo, aunque breve y algo pasado por agua, fue una experiencia hermosa que quedará guardada en mi memoria. Poder compartirlo con mi familia, mi perro y nuestros seres queridos lo hizo aún más significativo. Si algún día tienen la oportunidad de visitar el Manto de la Divina Pastora, no lo duden. Es un lugar que vale la pena conocer, no solo por su valor religioso, sino también por el calor humano y la belleza natural que lo rodea.
