I really, really hope this isn't just venture capital with a new face.

I've seen (and worked in) so many businesses where venture capitalists come in and buy a stake, often with the company's own money, by raising loans secured on the company and which it is responsible for repaying. Then they do the "improve operations" step by slashing the workforce, doing iffy things with land and buildings (sell it to their other entities then lease it back to the original business at ridiculous prices), and generally asset-strip them. Finally, they do an exit with all the cash they've freed up by selling the husk of what is left as a management buyout which promptly falls over and everyone that's left loses their job.

So the idea of buying businesses and keeping them long term is good, but if they don't look after the staff it is still an ethical nightmare.
