I believe it’s a complex issue to pinpoint the causes and reasons behind crime. I mostly agree with the idea that poverty is not inherently correlated with criminal behavior.

From my own experience, I grew up in a low-income household. For much of my childhood, we often struggled to have enough food to get through the week. We wore shoes and clothes until they were nearly falling apart. On some days, our only meal was tortillas with chili—if we had chili for the sauce; otherwise, we were grateful just to have tortillas with salt.

Despite all this, the thought of committing a crime, stealing, or being dishonest never crossed my mind. That’s one of the reasons I loved school—it offered a brief escape from scarcity. And when I started learning math, I discovered something I truly enjoyed: selling the small snacks my mother prepared. During tourist seasons, these sales brought in a much-needed boost to our income.
