The Watchful Wader
(Edited)
One day, while walking along the shore of a lake, I noticed this elegant bird. It strode quickly and confidently through the shallows. What caught my eye most were its bright red legs, standing out vividly against the silvery ripples. Only much later did I learn that it was a Common Redshank, one of the most recognizable waders in my home region.
Graceful as it is, the Redshank is more than just a skilled hunter. It's also an exceptionally watchful bird. The moment a person, a fox, or a bird of prey appears, it is often the first to sound the alarm with its sharp, piercing call.

That day, though, it paid no attention to me at all. It waded through the shallows, searching the mud for food. I stood there for a few minutes, took a couple of photos, and then we both moved on — each going our own way.
