The Geometry of Love

(Edited)

Once upon a time, love locks belonged almost exclusively on bridges. Apparently, people believed relationships benefited from staying close to engineering structures. Eventually, it turned out that love doesn't actually need a bridge. Any railing, fence, or metal grate will do.

Along the promenade of Petrovaradin Fortress, there are so many locks that you can barely see the railing beneath them. At times, it feels as though there are more locks here than people in Novi Sad.

Most messages are exactly what you'd expect: Daki i Milijana, Nina ♥ Lara.

But every now and then, there's a mystery — like A + A + D. Whatever those initials mean, only the people who engraved them know. It turns out the geometry of love isn't always straightforward.

And somehow, those are the locks you remember most. Because real stories rarely fit into a few letters on a little padlock.
