Silhouettes Against the Sky
(Edited)
There are places that simply call you back. You return for the atmosphere, for new experiences, for photographs that turn out just a little different every time.

The Sophia-Assumption Cathedral in Tobolsk is one of those places. You can take it in from afar, step right up to its walls, or circle it completely — and each time, the domes, towers, walls, and crosses fall into new compositions.

Even as dark silhouettes against the sky, its outlines remain instantly recognizable.

Perhaps that is why it is hard to imagine this cathedral looking anything less than magnificent. In the depths of winter or the height of summer, beneath clear skies or heavy clouds, at dawn or at dusk — it reveals a slightly different face each time, while remaining one of the most striking ensembles of the Tobolsk Kremlin.

For some buildings, finding the right angle takes effort. Here, you simply arrive. Almost any time will do.

The contrast of those figures against that background looks beautiful; in the second photograph, I like the way the sky and the silhouettes look. Regards.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked the contrast and the silhouettes. 😊
