RE: LeoThread 2026-01-28 23-57

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

In Islam we have distinction between "praying" to a person and praying for them to ask God for you. You can as God (Allah) to answer any prayer, and you can also ask someone who's loved by God, (let's say Mary,) to pray to God to answer your prayers.

but asking someone else to bring you something only God is able to do is considered idolatry by us and isn't considered as honoring that person because we'd be giving them divine status that's not inherit to them...

Wthe prophet Muhammad ﷺhen he was alive, his companions will ask him for things and he prays to God for him to answer these prayer, as someone who's loved by God is more likely to have their prayers answered... but he warned to not ask someone who's dead (including himself ﷺ after his death) to pray to God because at that point they can't verbally pray until God resurrects them in the day of judgement.

So, yeah... From our perspective, even if it's not worship it won't be allowed in Islam.

Maybe that's what we disagree on.

Well that's where our religion differs indeed. But think about this, if it is officially declared by the Church that someone is already in Heaven with God (meaning they're dead of course but their soul is already in Heaven) does it mean you will never ask help from someone who is already with God in Heaven?

I guess under that assumption I wouldn't be against it too.

But in the Islamic understanding we don't get to heaven upon death but our souls are waiting for the day of judgement first and then everyone will be judged for where they'll go, so we'll still be considered "not alive" in that state.

Also, thanks for having a civil conversation, on some online communities, this topic is a landmine and I don't like arguing.

Yeah haha. I know how it goes in other online posts. haha. Really nasty sometimes. But I'm glad too we're having this conversation. At least we get to see each other's religious perspectives better. 😁

In Catholicism, we believe that upon Jesus' resurrection He opened Heaven up so nobody who died and did good on Earth will be "waiting" anymore. Because everyone who followed God's laws/teachings and died prior to Jesus was in a place called "Abraham's bosom". When Jesus resurrected He went there and brought them all to Heaven. So since then anyone who dies would be judged immediately by Jesus to go to Heaven, Hell or Purgatory.

The 2nd coming is when we will all be "alive" again as we would be resurrected like Jesus with both body and soul combined during the Day of Judgment...

Also, many teachings in Islam aren't forbidden because they're wrong, but because they lead to slippery slope. Like for example, Riba (lending with interest) may not be objectively a bad thing, but it's forbidden harshly in Islam.

As we see in modern times, the slippery slope that starts with lending with interest is what caused many economics issue that we have no solutions for today.

Not that I say this is the same thing, but I'm just using these as examples in how I justify some Islamic teachings to myself.
