How I Was Mislead By A Sneaky Pickpocket Boy in Market
I don't know if I should share this story or not, it's funny moments though but at the same it shows how clever I am in 2006 when I finished my elementary school. I and my brother went to visit our father in Lagos where he work as driver, during that long-term holiday we spent 4weeks and some day before we come back home. During our visit my father sent I and my brother to bustling marketplace of Ajegunle, a marketplace where you have to pay for gate pass before you could cross a bridge that lead to the market. But before we leave home, I remember vividly my brother was just 15years and I was 13years so all what we have to buy was listed on pieces of paper.
Immediately we got to the market, we found ourself in the hand of one cunning boy. I don't know who give this boy our details seems he see us as new comer, I don't know why he walked to us to deceived us and turn our shopping trip into a tale of deception and hilarious hijinks. He just came out of nowhere approached me and my brother with an eyes of innocence. "Excuse me, are you going this way," he said with feigned politeness, "if you're going to upper market don't follow this place there are bad boys that will collect your money." Hearing that we believe him and he redirect me and my brother to another route and follow us to show us a new way. However when we got to area where lot of bus where packed, in the middle of those bus he said politely "but you seem to have a stain on the edge of your trousers. It's quite unsightly." I started turning around to glanced down at my trouser curiosity, "A stain? Oh no, Where? Show me!" As I bent over, trying to locate the stain, I don't know how skillfully he plucked the money we want to use to buy stuff in market from my pocket. The person giving us an advice not to pass a territory was a pickpocket but I don't know until he left us, then we know we are his unwitting victim.
We realized this immediately he left, you know as a first timer in the market I always check my pocket every 5min, immediately I placed my hand in the pocket I don't feel anything then I know we are robbed.
Me and my brother have to trek 10mile back home that day because we are left with #20 naira that we later use to buy water to quench our taste under the hot weather on our way going home unhappy. Imagine we couldn't buy a single thing out of things listed for us at home, it really a shame on us. This is a great lesson too for everyone to be cautious of their belongings in crowded areas to avoid falling victim to pickpockets.
Thanks for your attention 💕
