Ignorant of the consequences of addiction does not stop it.

When we talk about addiction, what is it all about? In my little way I want to use my small understanding to explain it as a character that one has developed overtime and finds it very very difficult to stop. No one just gets addicted to something either good or bad overnight. No one also does it by mistake. It doesn't also happen in the dream so that one can say I don't know when it happened to me or I was forced to do it. It is done consistently overtime and then it becomes a habit that can't be stopped unless by the help of God.
ADDICTION
when you get to the hospital where people who are addicted are treated, you will agree with me that it is more expensive to treat someone who is addicted to a habit than getting the addiction itself. It doesn't cost much to get in to a very bad habit. You start today and by two or three months of consistency, you get used to it and can't stay a whole day with out it. And some of things that causes addiction are not too expensive. But when you get to the cure you will be very shocked at what you will hear.
We have alot of mad people roaming the street today not because they can't be cured but because their families and friends can't afford the payment for their treatment. One of my friend told me some months back that she took one one her sons who got addicted to some lifestyle that was destroying him to the hospital for treatment and she was asked to pay almost three hundred thousand every month. So I said to myself what is she is the type that receive 50,000 naira every month, how will she afford it? Definitely she can't. But because she was a senior lecturer in a tertiary institution she could afford it. So that is what has happened to a lot of people today that are mentally unstable because no one can pay their bills at the hospital, so they just allowed them move around and some will say that he or she brought this on herself, so let the person bear the consequences of their doing.
IS ADDICTION A CHOICE?
Of course it was a choice that an individual made that brought him to that life. It doesn't matter whether he is aware of the consequences or not. You made your bed and you lay on it. That is just how this life operates. you may not be fully aware of what the results of your actions will be and it won't stop you from receiving the consequences of that action be it good or bad.
IN SUMMARY
I don't think that when one is addicted, we should just allow him to waste. No need for blames, if there is still a little ray of hope that person should be helped. I know that there are some that we can't help, but there are still some that can be salvaged. Maybe we can take the blames away and seek for help.
