I Succeeded Turning Back

Gone are those days when parents would choose the course their children would study. In this present time, the child can choose to go for the course of his or her choice. At least when you choose your course by yourself, no one has forced you to do it; it came out from your mind willingly.

My parents had to choose a course for me to do. Which was different from what I had in mind. While in the secondary school, they had been echoing it to my hearing that "you must study nursing." Although nursing is a sellable course, it's not for someone like me. I knew it was so lucrative, but going for this kind of course is not my call. I had tried to explain to my parents, who paid deaf ears to my words. I told them if I go for this course, I will not excel, as it is not what I have in mind to read. I also told them to allow me to choose the one that would best describe my mind. They refused to totally, instead forcing me to put in my mind nursing as a course.

The more I tried to put that in my mind, the more difficult it became for me to bear. I had tried, but was not able to shoulder it. Some of my friends went for nursing after our secondary school, but I trended a different path. I had to leave my subjects to my taste. I did economics, accounting, commerce, biology, bookkeeping, and other related subjects, leaving the sciences behind. I told my parents what I wanted to study, as I had no such power to carry or shoulder nursing as a course but only needed to have the mind to study accounting, as this was where my heart was.

Although I had to tell one of my teachers to help me talk to my parents. He promised to talk to them, and one day he came to my house. He was welcomed nicely, and he decided to bring up the topic about me studying what my mind wanted. He was not done talking before he was cut short of his words. "Don't just go there. She will do what we asked her to do," my dad was so optimistic with his words. My teacher tried to convince my parents, but they paid deaf ears to his words.

After some days, I told my principal, who had to call my parents to come to the school for our career day celebration. I was so happy that there was something called career day. It was as if it was done for my sake. Sometimes career talk can change so many things and so many doubting minds.
The speaker had to speak keenly and openly to everybody's understanding. My parents' eyes and minds were opened clearly to see the truth and the difficult path they had wanted me to tread. It was a difficult task, but with the help of the speaker, I was able to follow my mind but not the mind of my parents.

It was a difficult task, but I followed my path.

Hmmm all thanks to the career day that makes your parents see the need to allow you choose the course of your course. It's not easy at all!

That's exactly the same way my parents were preaching nursing to my ears. You can force a child to learn every course but when it comes to something related to saving life as nursing, the kids should be able to choose for themselves. Thankfully, you were able to follow your path after that career day.
