Expired, But Inspired

"How can he tell me that the bought ticket has expired? Anyway, it's a good thing to hear," Gina was so shocked after her ticket was being scanned and rejected at the same time was happy.

It's a concert that involves a talent show. Gina has a nice voice and when singing, she is always at her best. Singing at her best has been her priority and this alone has given her an edge towards her mates in the same domain.

The only difficulty she had was just the shy aspect of life. Removing her shy attitude is just what she was trying to build on through her parents.

That evening, Gina and her parents were watching 9 O'clock news. They say comfortably after taking their food. They were only waiting for nightfall to relax until the next morning. After the first round of the news, they went on an advertisement. "It's a dual concert that involves talent hunts majorly singing. Interested members should call the number below to get the tickets which are just #2000", the announcer said in the advertisement.

"I will purchase the ticket for you and your younger sister", Gina's dad said.
"But dad, you know I can't face the public except when I'm at home", Gina opened up.
"you just have to try your best. I will purchase two more tickets just for me and your mum to watch your outcome", her dad said.
"That will be better", her mum added.
"It will be fun, I guess, although I'm just going with you guys but not for the talent hunt", Mary, Gina's younger sister said.

It's the day and Gina was still shy as she wanted to run away from home. "I don't think I can do it, dad", she said.
"You just have to try", her dad gave her words of encouragement. She got prepared and went alongside her younger sister as her parents promised to join them when the concert was about to start properly.

As they got to the gate, everyone present at the gate were being scanned before entering. The queue was as long as ant row. When it got to their turn, her sister gave the gate man her ticket and was scanned. She went inside. She gave her ticket to the gate man but was covered with fear. "This ticket has been used, Miss", the gate man said. Gina was so happy hearing this statement. "I was not ready to participate in this anyway".

Meanwhile, her sister was already inside and was expecting her to come in. She waited for more than thirty minutes and was not able to see her elder sister. She thought, may be she would have occupied a different seat since those involved were so much.

Gina sat outside happily. She forgot the fact that her parents would be coming soon. She was so excited that she would not be participating in the talent hunt.

Few minutes later, she sighted her parents from a distance. She wanted to hide her face, but was not able to ask she thought she would have been seen by her parents.
"Why are you still outside? What's the problem?" Her dad asked as thinking she has performed and was not successful.
"My ticket has been used according to the gate man", she replied.
The walked directly to the gate man and asked him to recheck it again just to be sure. He checked and said "are you sure this was the one you brought that time?"
"Yes, of course", she answered as she was sad. Her mind was that, it would still remain the same void state.

They proceeded inside and immediately, her name was called. She was not able to see how others performed and she was just strange about how the whole thing was planned.

"Mum, I can't do this", she said.
"Yes, you can and I believe in your ability", her mum said.
"You can, my daughter ", her dad added. She walked to the stage. She was given the mic, but then for the first two minutes, she remained mute watching everyone's eyes and faces. She sighted her sister and her parents who yelled at her name. This gave her courage and she began by greeting everyone present and for giving her the opportunity to showcase her talent.

She sang to her best the song that was given to her. When she was done, the whole hall was quiet. To her, she had performed woefully, but after a few minutes, everyone started clapping and hailing her by her name.

She was the last to show her talent and the first to present with a good starting line. Others could not start by greeting but she did. This alone coupled with her sweet voice gave her edge over the others. She was announced the winner and was awarded #2 million Naira.
"Mum, dad, I did not plan for this and yet I have won".
It was just something to surprise them. Her parents only bought the ticket for her just for her to face the public for once, and now she had given them the pride of all times.
